Bin Management

Printing bin labels in bulk

Once your bins exist, every slot needs a barcode label so staff can scan it during putaway and picking. Here's how to print a whole zone at once — and what to do when a thermal printer won't cooperate.

Fast WMS prints a Code128 barcode label for each bin. Every scan during putaway, bin transfer or picking reads that barcode, so clean, correctly-placed labels are the foundation of accurate directed movement. You can print a single bin or a whole range in one job.

Printing a range of bins

  1. Open the bin label print screen and select the store you are labelling.
  2. Choose the bin range. Filter to a zone or a from/to range so you print only the slots you need.
  3. Pick your output format. Choose a downloadable Code128 PDF for any printer, or thermal output for a TSC label printer.
  4. Print and fix. Print the batch, then fix each label to its slot in walking order so the sequence matches the shelf.

PDF versus thermal

The PDF option produces Code128 labels you can download and send to any printer — the safest choice if you don't have thermal hardware. The thermal option drives a TSC TTP-244 Plus directly for durable, peel-and-stick labels. Both encode the same bin barcode, so pick whichever your site supports.

Common issue: nothing prints on the thermal printer

Fast WMS prints thermal labels from the server, not your browser. The native TSC printer library and driver must be installed on the Fast WMS server. If they are missing or the printer is offline, the thermal job silently fails — switch to the PDF option and print to any printer while your administrator checks the server.

Frequently asked questions

Why won't my thermal labels print?

Thermal labels print from the Fast WMS server, so the TSC printer library and driver must be installed there. If they are missing, use the PDF label option instead.

Can I print bin labels as a PDF?

Yes — Fast WMS generates Code128 bin labels as a downloadable PDF you can print on any printer.
