How to pair an Android scanner with Fast WMS

Fast WMS runs a dedicated handheld interface built for barcode-scanner terminals — big single-column screens, auto-focused inputs, and scan-to-submit behaviour so a storekeeper barely touches the keyboard. It works on any Android device with a scan engine, including Zebra TC-series, Honeywell, and low-cost Android handhelds. This guide gets one paired and running its first scan.

There is no Bluetooth "pairing" in the phone-accessory sense. The scan engine feeds barcodes straight into the handheld web app, so setup is really: get the device on your network, open the handheld login, and confirm scans land in the right field.

Pair and test the device

  1. Connect the handheld to the same Wi-Fi network as your Fast WMS server. On cloud deployments, any internet connection works; on on-premise, it must reach the warehouse server.
  2. Open the browser on the device and go to your Fast WMS handheld address (the mobile login, separate from the desktop login). Bookmark it or save it to the home screen.
  3. Log in with a warehouse user account. The same credentials work on desktop and handheld — see Adding a new user if the storekeeper has no login yet.
  4. Open Stock Enquiry and scan any pallet or bin label. If the code drops into the field and the screen reacts on its own, the scanner is working.
  5. If nothing happens, set the scan engine to keyboard-wedge mode with an Enter (carriage return) suffix. Fast WMS submits on Enter, so this suffix is what makes scanning hands-free.
Tip: the Enter suffix is the usual culpritNine times out of ten, a scanner that "reads but does nothing" just needs the Enter/CR suffix enabled in its DataWedge or scan-settings profile. Set it once and the whole receiving-to-dispatch flow becomes tap-free.

Which barcodes it reads

Fast WMS labels carry Code128 barcodes for the Bin ID and Pallet ID, plus QR codes on picklists. Any 1D/2D scan engine handles these. If you also need to print those labels, see Setting up a Zebra label printer. For a full list of supported devices and printers, visit Barcode hardware integration.

Once a device is scanning, keep it productive even when the network wobbles — offline scan mode queues work and syncs it when the connection returns.
