First-time account setup
Before you process a single receipt, Fast WMS needs a small set of foundation records in place. This guide covers the exact masters to create — in the right order — so your first transactions work first time.
Fast WMS runs as a cloud service or an on-premise IIS and SQL Server install, branded for your company. Whichever you use, first-time setup is the same: establish who you are, where you store goods, and who is allowed to do what. Work through the steps below in order.
Set up in this order
- Log in. Use your desktop login for back-office work. Floor staff use a separate handheld login on the scanner terminals — the two share the same data but have different screens.
- Set your company identity. Enter your company name, logo and statutory details. These appear on every label, challan and invoice, so get them right before printing anything.
- Create warehouses and stores. Define each physical warehouse and the stores within it. Every bin and transaction belongs to a store.
- Add units of measure. Create the UOMs your items use — pieces, cartons, kilograms, cubic metres — so packaging and capacity math is correct.
- Create storage locations. Add your bins, with capacity in kilograms or cubic metres, and mark at least one staging bin. Full detail in setting up your first bin structure.
- Configure tax. Set up your GST/tax configuration per company and document type so dispatch documents and invoices calculate correctly.
- Add users and role rights. Create logins and assign role-based menu rights, so each person sees only the screens they need.
Fast WMS enforces a licensed active-user cap, re-checked each time you add a user. If you cannot create a new login, you have reached your limit — deactivate an unused one or contact us to raise the count.
On on-premise single-server installs, an application-pool recycle logs everyone out, since sessions are held in-process. Plan restarts outside shift hours.
What comes next
With masters in place, add your items, then connect your accounting system so transactions post automatically. The item master is the natural next step.
